Is hiding the identity of her child's father worth risking her life? Randi McCafferty seems to think so, but investigator Kurt Striker is hell-bent on changing her mind. Hired by her well-meaning but overbearing brothers to keep Randi and her son safe, Kurt knows the only way to eliminate the danger is to reveal Randi's darkest secret...any way he can. Yet when protection leads to desire, will Randi and Kurt's explosive affair leave them vulnerable to the threats whispering in the shadows?

Randi The McCaffertys Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Jackson Amy McFadden Brilliance Audio Books

Lisa Jackson's strong voice makes this quickie read pleasurable. The book is so fast-paced, due to the Desire low word count. This makes it hard to develop any sort of "real" story or character development. It hardly takes an hour to read this. You don't get a chance to really get to know the characters or why they act or react as they do. You're just told they do, accept it, and move on - quickly!
Randi McCaffery's tale (fourth in the series following stories with her three older brothers) picks up with someone still trying to kill her. Presumably, someone wants her dead because she bore a child out of wedlock, even though she refuses to name the daddy. There have been two attempts on her life, nearly killing her and causing to give birth to her baby prematurely. Now, she is determined to leave the family ranch for fear of putting her brothers in danger. Frankly, this pigheaded determination to "do it on her own" is contrived. When a person has someone trying to kill her, she does not run away from the very people that can help you. But that is what Randi does. She claims she is trying to lure the killer away from her brothers, but it's hard to accept as logical. She is also fleeing away from Kurt Striker. Their one night of passion sending Randi running heedless of the danger to her and her baby. Oh, she makes an attempt to hide the child, but not really.
Striker is hired by her brothers to go after Randi and be her bodyguard. She kicks and screams and walks into apartments where the-would-be murder has been. Finally, she is driven to flee the city with Striker in hopes of hiding from the killer.
Of course, their romance picks up once again. Randi spends the whole book running!
The killer is transparent. Sorry, with these tiny books there is just no time to develop secondary characters or make their motivations believable. Jackson is a strong writer and has done some marvelous work in series romance. Just Silhouette Desire's short 185-page length just cramps her completely.

Randi The McCaffertys Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Jackson Amy McFadden Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

This was the shortest entry of the four-novel saga. It was good, but it just seemed to end too quickly. Randi is full of the spirit of her half-brothers, but her story's conclusion just did not send me into wanting to read more like the other three installments did. I guess it was a good thing this ended their tale.
I am not against formula romance but really, give me something of a story. Help it unfold. How many paragraphs can be spent with the characters reliving/rehashing their "unintentional" hot sexual encounter. And whose baby sleeps through the night without ever waking up? And what new mother just hands her baby over to a college friend whom she hasn't seen for a long time. And what college friend is so free, kind, and independently wealthy that she has time to just hang out and watch this friend's baby. And why, when she writes a popular syndicated column does it matter if she doesn't go into the office. And why bring up that she and her boss have a lot of tension when it has nothing to do with the story. Please.
I like murder mysteries. I read this one very quickly. I liked the characters and the way the main character'set independence got in her way a few times. I also like the writing style. I personally do not like books that have paragraphs describing a scene. This one definitely does not.
Of the four books in the series this was the best. As a Lisa Jackson fan however I am disappointed that she strung this story out through four books.. No, I don't think I would recommend this series to a friend. If a friend was interested in reading the series I would loan them my .
The story about Randi was well written and held my attention throughout to the end. It was the finale to the McCafferty Family and tied up all the loose ends that needed closure to complete the story. Loved the series.
This book was so full of action from begin to end that it was hard to find a stopping place. All the family is settled now, but I would love to read more about them as their futures unfold.
Constantly repeating old information about what had previously transpired, up to and including the original ownership of Harold, the old dog! So much of the "book" was old news it could simply be seen as a short story along with the "Slade book." Had I figured out who was trying to kill Randi a bit sooner, I'd have saved myself money.
